Point cloud modelling is a highly accurate technique that produces a set of data points in a co-ordinate system which represent the external surface of an object.
Through the use of a 3D Laser Scanner, an object can instantly be translated into a digital representation that can be altered and used for any project which requires visualisation and mass customisation applications. A 3D laser scan is the ideal starting point for the making of CAD models, or models made of either polygon or triangle mesh.
At Hope Draughting, we use lasers which are capable of producing over 100,000 3D measurements per second, generating data that is then converted into a 3D point cloud which can be used to make a solid CAD model.
